Damn The Torpedos, A Date Is Set

Life ain't worth living if you don't take risks.

We came to realize that this new life in Austin needed a swift kick in the arse. Without a set date it is impossible to set the dominoes in place. Without a date set it is hard for prospective employers to take you seriously. Without a date set, the train does not budge.

So we picked the perfectly lovely Spring date of May 15th.

Let me tell you, once a date is set things actually do start rolling. The list-making has reached a furious pace. We have made contact with an apartment finding service and have set up a mid-April trip to hopefully find an apartment. We have also decided to use a pod-type pack and move company and after getting quotes from many companies we have settled on a company called uPack.

We have also mapped out the route for the long drive from New Jersey to Texas. Instead of total and complete torture of driving non-stop, we have decided to take our time and actually see a few places along the way. The route we decided on will take us through Louisville, Nashville, Memphis and Dallas and will take 4 days to complete. This actually should work out because the delivery of the moving pod is scheduled to take 5 days.

Though it is a little nerve-racking to finally have a date, it is also very liberating. It's real now.

Organization Is The Key

Obviously the key to a successful move is organization. And the key to organization is creating, editing and sharing lists. Lists of things to do, lists of when to do them and even lists of all the lists. We started this the old fashioned way by utilizing Office Word but soon came to the realization that sharing and syncing becomes an issue.

Thank you Google for Google Docs.

Now we can both work on a particular list at the same time and even have the added joy of battling to see whose formatting wins the revision war. Also, upon perusal of the Google arsenal I created a shared calendar to keep track of all the important move-related dates.

Now all we need are jobs...
